Roma vs Atalanta Prediction & Match Preview

Our prediction for this Serie A match:

Roma and Atalanta go head to head at Stadio Olimpico in what is expected to be one of the most exciting games of Sunday’s program. The Romans aim to build on a 2-1 win over Empoli, but this match will be anything but a walk in the park for the home team. Jose Mourinho can’t count on Rick Karsdorp, Marash Kumbulla, Stephan El Shaarawy, Nicolo Zaniolo, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Ebrima Darboe for the Atalanta clash.

The Orobici, on the other hand, dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with Cremonese. Since the visitors are eager to return to winning ways in the Italian top flight, we believe that gamblers from all around the globe can find value in betting on both teams to score. Summer signing Rasmus Hojlund is pushing for a recall to the starting XI, while all Duvan Zapata, Berat Djimsiti, and Marco Carnesecchi remain in the treatment room.

Team News:

Continuing their relentless schedule right up until the international break, Roma will once again refresh their starting XI on Sunday, having already played twice within the previous six days.

Up front, Andrea Belotti should give way for Tammy Abraham, while Paulo Dybala also returns to the starting XI; Nicolo Zaniolo could feature again, after making his first appearance since suffering a shoulder injury.

Nicola Zalewski, Marash Kumbulla, Stephan El Shaarawy and long-term absentee Georginio Wijnaldum all remain in the treatment room, and the former’s absence means Leonardo Spinazzola should keep his place on the left flank despite some indifferent form.

Meanwhile, Atalanta winger Jeremie Boga sustained a thigh injury during a practice match earlier this week, so joins Berat Djimsiti, Duvan Zapata and Davide Zappacosta in missing the trip to the capital; Jose Luis Palomino is still suspended.

With Zapata unavailable, either teenage forward Rasmus Hojlund or Luis Muriel will lead the line up front. The latter has scored seven Serie A goals against Roma, but is yet to find the net in four games this season – only in 2014 has the Colombian previously failed to score in each of his first five appearances.

Supporting from behind should be any two of Ruslan Malinovskyi, Ademola Lookman, Mario Pasalic and Ederson.

Roma vs Atalanta Head-to-head:

  • Four of the past five overall encounters had goals from both teams.
  • Six of the last nine clashes had three or more goals.
  • Six of the former nine meetings at this ground had goals from both tea
  • The latest match-up at this ground ended in a 1-0 win for the hosts

Roma vs Atalanta Prediction:

I Giallorossi have bounced back well from back-to-back defeats, winning two on the bounce. Despite their better record against the visitors, they have just one win in their last eight home games against Atalanta, who have outscored them 11-8 in this period.

With the international break coming up next week, both teams could settle for a draw.
